Books December 6, 2009

I love books. I am really trying to make an effort to read more…I think it’s really good for the soul. Right now I’m reading several things… Take a looksie!

This is basically Hosea’s story. It’s so good! I think every woman should read it. It is a story of God’s unconditional and redemptive love.

I really love this book. I am reading it for the second time right now. I read half of it with Blake before the Lord told us to wait on the engagement stuff. But now I’m reading it myself, just because I want to learn as much as i can about marriage and dating. This book gives great advice and direction for daters. But be willing to obey whatever the Lord tells you because sometimes it’s not what you want to hear. Just remember, He knows best!.

I’m reading this study with my small group and it’s awesome! It has been great for my quiet times with God :)

I’m on “Team Jacob”. Duh!

Falling in Love. December 6, 2009

Blake and I have been dating a little over a year now.  It has been so much fun.  There really is nothing like being in love with your best friend.  When we first started dating I realized that I never wanted to be anywhere else without him again.  I am so thankful for him.

We started dating when I turned 19 years old and this song reminds me of him.  It’s by Mark Mathis…if you like his music, you should also check out Dave Barnes. (I recently just discovered his music and I LOVE it).

In Love at 19

Something in the way that time stands still
When you walk towards me, I feel
Hope, peace, and eternity, baby

Something in the way your eyes speak
Yeah, they held me close and you breathed
Life into me, 10,000 white doves were released

See how my eyes tell this story
Of a man and his eternal devotion
Throw your head back, girl, and laugh one more time
Now is the season for me and you

Something in the way your voice speaks
As it comforts and uncovers all my needs
‘Cause I’m a wild horse, baby, running through the canyon
And half the time I don’t know what I’m running for

See how my eyes tell this story
Of a man and his eternal devotion
Throw your head back, girl, and laugh one more time
Now is the season for me and you

I know our love is just a reflection
Of all that we want to believe
Come let me lift you up just one more time
Now is the season for me and you

My Favorite December 5, 2009

This is my favorite time of the year.

Christmas always makes me feel like a child again…warmth floods my heart and a smile covers my face when I see stockings hung by the fireplace and lights sparkling on Christmas trees through windows.

I am excited for exams to be over so I can hurry back home to help my mom decorate the house for Christmas.  I think one of the reasons why Christmas is so special to me is because she made it so wonderful for me when I was a little girl.  She made it sort of magical. I really hope to do that for my children some day.

Christmas changes things.  It changes attitudes.  It changes perspectives.  It makes us think less about ourselves and more about giving.  It reminds us of how important family is….It reminds us to love without holding back…and to give for the shear joy of putting a smile on another person’s face.

It goes deeper than lights, Santa Claus, decorated trees, and Holiday music.  It penetrates the heart and moves the soul to new places.

This time of year reminds me of a small baby who came to save me.  It reminds me of a King who abandoned His throne for swaddle cloths, and although, I love everything that is tangible, bright colored, and decorated at Christmas time…my favorite part of it all is the reason why we celebrate Christmas in the first place.

Jesus.

Hoppy Easter April 12, 2009

yeah I said it…

This is the first Easter I’ve spent away from my family.  I couldn’t go home this year because of work. Although I miss them all so much this has been an amazing day…one of those days when it’s like “could it get any better than this?” My boyfriend, Blake, and I went to Port City this morning and enjoyed a sweet time of worship together. He took me out to lunch at Long Horn where I ate WAY too much. It was awesome. We took Colt to the dog park and laughed as he attempted to meet other pups.  He isn’t very social, but gosh is he cute!

(sigh) I love pc3. When I came to Wilmington last year, finding a church where I felt “at home” was one of my greatest doubts, but Port City proved me wrong. I am in love with the mission and vision of the church and it has definitely become “home” to me. Let me tell ya…God is so apparent and His presence is so thick every time. Aaamazing. Pastor Mike spoke on Christs’ resurrection and how because He is risen we have LIFE. (Revelation 7; Galations 2:20)

How marvelous…how wonderful…

I hope ya’ll have a fantastic Easter!

I’m Addicted February 23, 2009

Cafe Americano = My life juice. Yummmm...

…to coffee.

i just ran out to grab a cup from the nearest starbucks. i was in desperate need of the energy boost. and it was gooood.

my small group met tonight and it was amazing. we discussed philippians 4:1-13. i tell you what, there is just somethin’ about community and close-knitted[ness] that gets me. i am so thankful that i can be transparent in front of those awesome girls and know that zero judgement is passed. mmm…the body of Christ is so encouraging.

“…make it clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them…” [philippians 4:4-5]

walking together is what it’s all about. God desires us to build each other up in love. it is part of His plan for us and i’m forever grateful for that. relationships are so important in understanding the character of the Lord.

striving to show God’s HEART and LOVE to others sums it up. i need to make room in my life for PEOPLE…God calls me to actively share my faith.

there is safety in the care of community– “Even though we had some standing as Christ’s apostles,we never threw our weight around or tried to come across as important, with you or anyone else. We were never patronizing, never condescending, but we cared for you the way a mother cares for her children. We loved you dearly. Not content to just pass on the message, we wanted to give you our hearts.” [1 thes. 2:6-8)

it has been such a good day thinking over these things and resting in the Lord– this is definitely a challenge for me; to care for others “the way a mother cares for her child”; “to give my heart“…

Jesus, i want more of your compassion and love in me. help me to see others through Your eyes. amen.
